We Are Inclusive
At St. John's we welcome all of God's children regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or economic circumstances. We are an inclusive Episcopal church worshiping according to ancient Christian practice, with both traditional hymns and newer worship music.
We have served the Milwaukie community since 1851 and are located one block form the Milwaukie transit center, near the Farmer's Market and Dark Horse Comics. We are a multi-generational community of faith committed to serving God, our community, and our parish family in the spirit of Christ.
In the spirit of our patron, St. John the Evangelist, we strive to bring light into the world around us, make the Word of God flesh as we strive to be Jesus' hands and heart in the world, and love one another as we believe that Jesus loved us.
We worship in the Prayer Book tradition, including the supplemental liturgies found in "Enriching Our Worship." Every Sunday we hear from God's Word, followed by a sermon, which culminates in the sharing of Holy Communion (sometimes called the Eucharist, Mass, or Lord's Supper). All are welcome to participate.
Our Sunday 8:00 a.m. service is a traditional Rite I service without music. The 10:00 a.m. Sunday service uses modern language (Rite II), incorporates the best of traditional hymns and new worship music, and is for all ages. Worship is a celebration, and children are part of what we celebrate. We hope to see you soon.
