E-bulletin

For the week of February 21, 2010

This Week in the Parish:

We are continuing to experience problems with our phone lines at the church.  Our provider is working on a fix; meanwhile, we are unable to pick up messages so any messages left on the main line this week have not been and/or will not be received.

For Adult Education during Lent we will be studying the gospel according to Luke.

Please plan to join us for the dedication and celebration of our newly designed worship space this Sunday at the 10:00 service. Bishop Ladehoff will do the honors, and we have invited our architect and builder to join us.

SCRIP NEWS
I was recently reminded that many of our new parishioners do not fully understand the scrip program. So here is a little note about scrip... Scrip are gift cards that you pre-pay for services. We have opportunities to purchase scrip for over one hundred restaurants and businesses. When you buy the gift card, a portion of your purchase goes to the church, but you ALWAYS receive full value. For example, if you buy a $50 card to Fred Meyers, you use it like a debit card and you receive $50 in purchases. The store gives 4% back to the church. We usually make about $100 per week in profit. Last year our profit was almost $4,000. Please consider using scrip for your groceries and restaurant purchases. All of your pharmacy purchases would really help as well. We don't have 100% participation yet, but that is my goal. Please consider trying it at least once. If you have any questions at all, please stop by the scrip table and ask!

Confirmation Class will resume on February 21st at 1 p.m. and will continue until May 2 with Palm Sunday, Easter and the Sunday after Easter being omitted.

Join the Sunday Night Live group for dinner at Town Center the third Sunday of February, 4:30 p.m. For $5 you get good company, good food, good fellowship and, a good feeling for supporting our friends there. And you get to share with others your concerns, joys and passions.
On Sunday, March 7, join us for a visit to Medical Teams International. We have arranged a private showing of the exhibit at 1:45 p.m. The address is 14150 SW Milton Ct, Tigard 97224. If you need a ride call me at 503 658-8754 or Dr. Warren Schafer
at 503 698-2324. We would like to hear from you so we can get a head count for the
curator.

ST. JOHN’S EWOKS
Hey everybody!  We had a fantastic “first EWOKS” evening a couple of weeks ago with 16 of us there for Bunco!  We missed those of you who couldn’t be with us but are looking forward to our monthly time of fellowship and fun throughout the year!
That being said, February is such a short month with a lot going on for everyone so we are encouraging everyone to get together at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tuesday, February 16th at St. John’s.
Now, we need to plan ahead and get some evenings on the calendar.  So far we have November and December taken care of but that leaves a lot of months open!  Please sign up for a month that you’d like to host an event.  You can pick the date, the time, and the event – whether it’s a simple potluck in your backyard or an evening out – it really doesn’t matter.  It’s the fellowship and time together.
If you’ve got a month you’d like to host – just email Cindy Van Drimmelen at cinder_bug@yahoo.com. We can get details closer to the date you’d like!  We really need to fill up March soon!

Coming Up:

THREE CUPS OF TEA
Inspired by the book Three Cups of Tea a group is forming to explore a fund raising project. The goal is funding a school or donation to the Central Asian Institute. The author Greg Mortenson started the Institute and has built schools and bridges both of friendship, trust and actual spans.
JOIN US FEBRUARY 28, 2010 2:00PM IN THE WEST WING FOR TEA AND REFRESHMENTS.
